The Canadian beaver is causing irreparable damage to the ecosystem of Chilean Patagonia, where man introduced it some seventy years ago. The dams built by these animals, not harmful in their place of origin, have profoundly changed the Tierra del Fuego, its vegetation, and its water resources. By adapting rivers and forests to their presence and the needs of their species, the "harmful" beavers become a kind of metaphor for the human species and its relationship with nature
