AL-YAD AL-KHADRA
RACCOGLITORI DI ERBE
FORAGERS
In the heights of Golan, Galilee and Jerusalem, people are mad for two wild herbs: za'atar, a blend of herbs with the taste of thyme, and akkoub, a plant similar to thistle. However, they are rare and protected species and for this reason they cannot be gathered in large quantities. Al-Yad Al-Khadra explores the conflict between the Israeli authorities in charge of parks and nature reserves and the Palestinian people who traditionally go there to collect edible wild plants. Combining fiction, documentary, and archival footage, Jumana Manna shows the chases between foragers and the Israeli patrols, the defense in the courtrooms, but also moments of everyday life with her parents and representation of healthy life as a portrait of a serene emancipation.
