Life in the mountain pastures, marked by the rhythm of summer days, and accompanied by the ringing of bells and the sounds of the local dialect, seems never to have changed. As always, the meadows, dotted with the soft colours of Alpine flowers, are home to the cows put out to pasture in the summer months. But although everything seems to stay the same, everything is different and changing over time. The stables and dairies are mechanised, the trails are paved; the experience of an elderly cheese maker, a master in the creation of mountain-produced Fontina cheese, seems destined for oblivion, but is saved by the work and passion of a young immigrant. Only a few elderly remain to appreciate the charm of this solitary life in the Alpine meadows.
